The Mariposa Museum on Circuit Avenue in Oak Bluffs (across from Union Chapel) explores American history and experience through the artwork of (primarily) diverse artists. This season's exhibit, Freedom Songs, includes "And Still We Rise" history quilts by the famed Women of Color Quilters Network, Block Prints of Spirituals by Ashley Bryan, and found object sculpture by former Newark policeman Kevin Blythe Sampson. A carved ship's figurehead and (in August) an extremely rare Nkisi Nkondi sculpture depicting a WWI soldier are also featured. Open 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily and to 9 p.m. Saturdays. Adults $10 or free with gift shop purchase. Children free. For more information about the museum's two locations (in Oak Bluffs and Peterborough, NH), about virtual programming, or to get involved, visit
www.mariposamuseum.org
. For evening group visits call 603-508-0673.
